bc4da29d06 De-duplicate SHA1-independent test in ssl-opt.sh
The splitting of this test into two versions depending on whether SHA-1 was
allowed by the server was a mistake in
5d2511c4d4 - the test has nothing to do with
SHA-1 in the first place, as the server doesn't request a certificate from
the client so it doesn't matter if the server accepts SHA-1 or not.

77cbeff04c Fix ssl-opt.sh for GnuTLS versions rejecting SHA-1
While the whole script makes (often implicit) assumptions about the version of
GnuTLS used, generally speaking it should work out of the box with the version
packaged on our reference testing platform, which is Ubuntu 16.04 so far.

With the update from Jan 8 2020 (3.4.10-4ubuntu1.6), the patches for rejecting
SHA-1 in certificate signatures were backported, so we should avoid presenting
SHA-1 signed certificates to a GnuTLS peer in ssl-opt.sh.

e0b90ece55 ssl-opt.sh: Add var's of context s11n tests for ChaChaPoly,CCM,GCM
This commit splits each test in ssl-opt.sh related to context serialization
in three tests, exercising the use of CCM, GCM and ChaChaPoly separately.

The reason is that the choice of primitive affects the presence and size
of an explicit IV, and we should test that space for those IVs is correctly
restored during context deserialization; in fact, this was not the case
previously, as fixed in the last commit, and was not caught by the tests
because only ChaChaPoly was tested.

8faa70e810 Use more specific name in debug message for testing
While 'session hash' is currently unique, so suitable to prove that the
intended code path has been taken, it's a generic enough phrase that in the
future we might add other debug messages containing it in completely unrelated
code paths. In order to future-proof the accuracy of the test, let's use a
more specific string.

b2a86c3e01 Don't disallow 'record from another epoch' log msg in proxy ref test
It happens regularly in test runs that the server example application
shuts down a connection, goes into waiting mode for a new connection,
and then receives the encrypted ClosureAlert from the client. The only
reason why this does currently not trigger the 'record from another epoch'
message is that we handle ClientHello parsing outside of the main record
stack because we want to be able to detect SSLv2 ClientHellos. However,
this is likely to go away, and once it happens, we'll see the log message.
Further, when record checking is used, every record, including the mentioned
closure alert, is passed to the record checking API before being passed to
the rest of the stack, which leads to the log message being printed.

In summary, grepping for 'record from another epoch' is a fragile way
of checking whether a reordered message has arrived. A more reliable
way is to grep for 'Buffer record from epoch' which is printed when
a record from a future epoch is actually buffered, and 'ssl_buffer_message'
which is the function buffering a future handshake message.

8a7f972202 Skip copying CIDs to SSL transforms until CID feature is complete
This commit temporarily comments the copying of the negotiated CIDs
into the established ::mbedtls_ssl_transform in mbedtls_ssl_derive_keys()
until the CID feature has been fully implemented.

While mbedtls_ssl_decrypt_buf() and mbedtls_ssl_encrypt_buf() do
support CID-based record protection by now and can be unit tested,
the following two changes in the rest of the stack are still missing
before CID-based record protection can be integrated:
- Parsing of CIDs in incoming records.
- Allowing the new CID record content type for incoming records.
- Dealing with a change of record content type during record
  decryption.

Further, since mbedtls_ssl_get_peer_cid() judges the use of CIDs by
the CID fields in the currently transforms, this change also requires
temporarily disabling some grepping for ssl_client2 / ssl_server2
debug output in ssl-opt.sh.

aa946b2d49 Fix failure in SSLv3 per-version suites test
The test used 3DES as the suite for SSLv3, which now makes the handshake fails
with "no ciphersuite in common", failing the test as well. Use Camellia
instead (as there are not enough AES ciphersuites before TLS 1.2 to
distinguish between the 3 versions).

Document some dependencies, but not all. Just trying to avoid introducing new
issues by using a new cipher here, not trying to make it perfect, which is a
much larger task out of scope of this commit.

a16c2b1ff1 all.sh: don't insist on Linux; always run Valgrind
Don't bail out of all.sh if the OS isn't Linux. We only expect
everything to pass on a recent Linux x86_64, but it's useful to call
all.sh to run some components on any platform.

In all.sh, always run both MemorySanitizer and Valgrind. Valgrind is
slower than ASan and MSan but finds some things that they don't.

Run MSan unconditionally, not just on Linux/x86_64. MSan is supported
on some other OSes and CPUs these days.

Use `all.sh --except test_memsan` if you want to omit MSan because it
isn't supported on your platform. Use `all.sh --except test_memcheck`
if you want to omit Valgrind because it's too slow.

Make the test scripts more portable (tested on FreeBSD): don't insist
on GNU sed, and recognize amd64 as well as x86_64 for `uname -m`. The
`make` utility must still be GNU make.

1d911cd59d Automatically allocate opaque PSK key slots in ssl_{client/server}2
Previously, command line arguments `psk_slot` and `psk_list_slot`

This commit changes this approach to use the utility function
`mbedtls_psa_get_free_key_slot()` to obtain free key slots from
the PSA Crypto implementation automatically, so that users only
need to pass boolean flags `psk_opaque` and `psk_list_opaque`
on the command line to enable / disable PSA-based opaque PSKs.

82986c1015 Disable 3d test with no good openssl version
While these tests and the issue with it are pre-existing:
- we previously didn't understand that the issue was an openssl bug
- failures seem to have become more frequent since the recent changes

So let's disable these fragile tests in order to get a clean CI. We still have
the tests against gnutls-serv for interop testing.

c1eda67fac Disable fragmentation tests with openssl bugs
While making the initial commit, I thought $OPENSSL_LEGACY was not affect by
this bug, but it turns out I was wrong. All versions of OpenSSL installed on
the CI are. Therefore, the corresponding tests are disabled for the same
reason as the gnutls-cli tests above it.

This commit is only about the tests that were added in the recent
fragmentation work. One of those two tests had a particularly
annoying mode of failure: it failed consistently with seed=1 (use in the
release version of all.sh), once #1951 was applied. This has nothing
particular to do with #1951, except that by changing retransmission behaviour
1951 made the proxy run into a path that triggered the OpenSSL bug with this
seed, while it previously did that only with other seeds.

Other 3d interop test are also susceptible to triggering this OpenSSL bug or
others (or bugs in GnuTLS), but they are left untouched by this commit as:
- they were pre-existing to the recent DTLS branches;
- they don't seem to have the particularly annoying seed=1 mode of failure.
However it's probably desirable to do something about them at some point in
the future.

34aa187df6 Force IPv4 for gnutls-cli DTLS tests
Depending on the settings of the local machine, gnutls-cli will either try
IPv4 or IPv6 when trying to connect to localhost. With TLS, whatever it tries
first, it will notice if any failure happens and try the other protocol if
necessary. With DTLS it can't do that. Unfortunately for now there isn't
really any good way to specify an address and hostname independently, though
that might come soon: https://gitlab.com/gnutls/gnutls/issues/344

A work around is to specify an address directly and then use --insecure to
ignore certificate hostname mismatch; that is OK for tests that are completely
unrelated to certificate verification (such as the recent fragmenting tests)
but unacceptable for others.

For that reason, don't specify a default hostname for gnutls-cli, but instead
let each test choose between `--insecure 127.0.0.1` and `localhost` (or
`--insecure '::1'` if desired).

Alternatives include:
- having test certificates with 127.0.0.1 as the hostname, but having an IP as
  the CN is unusual, and we would need to change our test certs;
- have our server open two sockets under the hood and listen on both IPv4 and
IPv6 (that's what gnutls-serv does, and IMO it's a good thing) but that
obviously requires development and testing (esp. for windows compatibility)
- wait for a newer version of GnuTLS to be released, install it on the CI and
developer machines, and use that in all tests - quite satisfying but can't
be done now (and puts stronger requirements on test environment).

3d183cefb5 Allow client-side resend in proxy MTU tests
From Hanno:
When a server replies to a cookieless ClientHello with a HelloVerifyRequest,
it is supposed to reset the connection and wait for a subsequent ClientHello
which includes the cookie from the HelloVerifyRequest.
In testing environments, it might happen that the reset of the server
takes longer than for the client to replying to the HelloVerifyRequest
with the ClientHello+Cookie. In this case, the ClientHello gets lost
and the client will need retransmit. This may happen even if the underlying
datagram transport is reliable.

When a server replies to a cookieless ClientHello with a HelloVerifyRequest,

In testing environments, it might happen that the reset of the server
takes longer than for the client to replying to the HelloVerifyRequest

2f2d9020cd Add delay in test to avoid race condition
We previously observed random-looking failures from this test. I think they
were caused by a race condition where the client tries to reconnect while the
server is still closing the connection and has not yet returned to an
accepting state. In that case, the server would fail to see and reply to the
ClientHello, and the client would have to resend it.

I believe logs of failing runs are compatible with this interpretation:
- the proxy logs show the new ClientHello and the server's closing Alert are
  sent the same millisecond.
- the client logs show the server's closing Alert is received after the new
handshake has been started (discarding message from wrong epoch).

The attempted fix is for the client to wait a bit before reconnecting, which
should vastly enhance the probability of the server reaching its accepting
state before the client tries to reconnect. The value of 1 second is arbitrary
but should be more than enough even on loaded machines.

The test was run locally 100 times in a row on a slightly loaded machine (an
instance of all.sh running in parallel) without any failure after this fix.

12405e76b5 Increase max_frag_len / MTU in fragmentation ref tests
The tests "DTLS fragmenting: none (for reference)" and
"DTLS fragmenting: none (for reference) (MTU)" used a
maximum fragment length resp. MTU value of 2048 which
was meant to be large enough so that fragmentation
of the certificate message would not be necessary.
However, it is not large enough to hold the entire flight
to which the certificate belongs, and hence there will
be fragmentation as soon as datagram packing is used.

This commit increases the maximum fragment length resp.
MTU values to 4096 bytes to ensure that even with datagram
packing in place, no fragmentation is necessary.

A similar change was made in "DTLS fragmenting: client (MTU)".

adfa64f0c4 Abort idle-loop in ssl_server2 if sockets gets invalid
Previously, the idling loop in ssl_server2 didn't check whether
the underlying call to mbedtls_net_poll signalled that the socket
became invalid. This had the consequence that during idling, the
server couldn't be terminated through a SIGTERM, as the corresponding
handler would only close the sockets and expect the remainder of
the program to shutdown gracefully as a consequence of this.
This was subsequently attempted to be fixed through a change
in ssl-opt.sh by terminating the server through a KILL signal,
which however lead to other problems when the latter was run
under valgrind.

This commit changes the idling loop in ssl_server2 and ssl_client2
to obey the return code of mbedtls_net_poll and gracefully shutdown
if an error occurs, e.g. because the socket was closed.

As a consequence, the server termination via a KILL signal in
ssl-opt.sh is no longer necessary, with the previous `kill; wait`
pattern being sufficient. The commit reverts the corresponding
change.

0d225daf7d Increase waiting times compat.sh and ssl-opt.sh
- Some of the CI machines don't have lsof installed yet, so rely on an sleeping
an arbitrary number of seconds while the server starts. We're seeing
occasional failures with the current delay because the CI machines are highly
loaded, which seems to indicate the current delay is not quite enough, but
hopefully not to far either, so double it.

- While at it, also double the watchdog delay: while I don't remember seeing
much failures due to client timeout, this change doesn't impact normal
running time of the script, so better err on the safe side.

These changes don't affect the test and should only affect the false positive
rate coming from the test framework in those scripts.

992b6872f3 Fix heap corruption in ssl_decrypt_buf
Previously, MAC validation for an incoming record proceeded as follows:

1) Make a copy of the MAC contained in the record;
2) Compute the expected MAC in place, overwriting the presented one;
3) Compare both.

This resulted in a record buffer overflow if truncated MAC was used, as in this
case the record buffer only reserved 10 bytes for the MAC, but the MAC
computation routine in 2) always wrote a full digest.

For specially crafted records, this could be used to perform a controlled write of
up to 6 bytes past the boundary of the heap buffer holding the record, thereby
corrupting the heap structures and potentially leading to a crash or remote code
execution.

This commit fixes this by making the following change:
1) Compute the expected MAC in a temporary buffer that has the size of the
   underlying message digest.
2) Compare to this to the MAC contained in the record, potentially
restricting to the first 10 bytes if truncated HMAC is used.

A similar fix is applied to the encryption routine `ssl_encrypt_buf`.

b0f148c0ab Renegotiation: Add tests for SigAlg ext parsing
This commit adds regression tests for the bug when we didn't parse the
Signature Algorithm extension when renegotiating. (By nature, this bug
affected only the server)

The tests check for the fallback hash (SHA1) in the server log to detect
that the Signature Algorithm extension hasn't been parsed at least in
one of the handshakes.

A more direct way of testing is not possible with the current test
framework, since the Signature Algorithm extension is parsed in the
first handshake and any corresponding debug message is present in the
logs.

Add a test to ssl-opt.sh to ensure that in DTLS a 6 byte record counter
is compared in ssl_check_ctr_renegotiate() instead of a 8 byte one as in
the TLS case. Because currently there are no testing facilities to check
that renegotiation routines are triggered after X number of input/output
messages, the test consists on setting a renegotiation period that
cannot be represented in 6 bytes, but whose least-significant byte is 2.
If the library behaves correctly, the renegotiation routines will be
executed after two exchanged.

74681fa2e6 Make ssl-opt.sh more tolerant to start timeouts
Rather than flat-out die when we can't see the server started with lsof, just
stop waiting and try to go ahead with the test. Maybe it'll work if there was
a problem with lsof, most probably it will fail, but at least we'll have the
log, and the results of the following tests.

Note: date +%s isn't POSIX, but it works at least on Linux, Darwin/FreeBSD and
OpenBSD, which should be good enough for a test script.

0a8857435c DTLS: treat bad MAC on Finished as an error
This is not required nor recommended by the protocol, and it's a layering
violation, but it's a know flaw in the protocol that you can't detect a PSK
auth error in any other way, so it is probably the right thing to do.

bd47a58221 Add ssl_set_arc4_support()
Rationale: if people want to disable RC4 but otherwise keep the default suite
list, it was cumbersome. Also, since it uses a global array,
ssl_list_ciphersuite() is not a convenient place. So the SSL modules look like
the best place, even if it means temporarily adding one SSL setting.

502bf30fb5 Handle reassembly of handshake messages
Works only with GnuTLS for now, OpenSSL packs other records in the same
datagram after the last fragmented one, which we don't handle yet.

Also, ssl-opt.sh fails the tests with valgrind for now: we're so slow with
valgrind that gnutls-serv retransmits some messages, and we don't handle
duplicated messages yet.

a8c0a0dbd0 Add "exchanges" option to test server and client
Goal is to test renegotiation better: we need more than one exchange for
server-initiated renego to work reliably (the previous hack for this wouldn't
work with non-blocking I/O and probably not with DTLS either).

Also check message termination in a semi-realistic way.
